Portland Garment Factory

There's no excuse to pop over to the Montavilla neighborhood like a Portland Garment Factory party. And now that the weather is allegedly—maybe? fingers crossed?—improving, it's near time to revel in the natural beauty of the region. Fitting then, that PGF's recommendation is that partygoers attend in outfits inspired by the landscape (alternatively, architecture). There's lots of new clothing in the retail front of the factory, plus there'll be art by Wynde Dyer, and a music/sound performance from co-proprietor Britt Howard's brother, Branic Howard, home for the summer from grad school in New York, live painting, drinks, and beautiful people. Now how to interpret "landscape" in an outfit... The party goes down tomorrow (Friday) from 6-11 pm.

Oh hell yeah, this is my idea of a good party! From Britt Howard of the Portland Garment Factory:
This year, Portland Garment Factory is doing our own version of Halloween in the tradition of a formal party. The Art of the Garment part I will be a museum style/curated display of many spectacular and intricately constructed garments (antique and modern). This showcase is also to be considered the perfect time for you to break out your most intricate piece whether it be a gown from the 30s to a hat to a stellar pair of stilettos. We all have that amazing piece that we never have a chance to wear.... now is the time ladies and gentleman!! Bust it out! Enjoy wine, small treats and get your photo taken to capture the rare, exotic moment of you having a blast in your rare 1930's beaded African headdress!
Sounds like fun, right? It's this Friday, from 8 pm to midnight at the shop/factory space at 7910 SE Stark, costs one measly buck plus donations for booze and photos, and to sweeten the deal even further Vintage Cocktail Lounge across the street will take 20% off the tab of attendees!
The Anne Bocci Boutique welcomes Seth Aaron, of Project Runway fame, to Multnomah Village tonight. In addition to the massages, wine, and snacks provided by the store, Aaron will be bringing some of his one-of-a-kind pieces for anyone looking to pick up something cute for Saturday night.
...If you haven't yet visited designer Dawn Sharp's sweet little boutique the Magic Hour, here's your motivation:

On Friday I had the opportunity to pop down to the new location of the Portland Garment Factory in the up-and-coming Montavilla neighborhood at 7910 SE Stark. In contrast to the small, dark location on Belmont, the new Factory is flooded with natural light, bright and spacious.
...Even though Montavilla is bubbling over with fun and good things (Ya Hala! Roscoes!), sometimes you need a specific impetus to make it over to the deep-ish southeast. Portland Garment Factory's shop/production facility is good for this, having thrown at least three parties since its relocation to the 'hood last summer. Kindly giving you exactly one day to recover from NYE, PGF's next shindig is on Saturday Jan 2, from 6-11 pm. Titled "20,000 Kissed Under the Sea," it is described as an intriguing yet inscrutable affair featuring "new, embroidered, Abyssal Art To Wear accessories... Sounds from the bioluminescent disco..... Archeaon film footage... Hot toddies heated over smoker chimneys.... Wear your finest fantasy attire and receive the tiniest autographed picture of your favorite Archeaon dancer..." Hmm. Well it's all to do with Chromium Dumb Belle and her fantasy land of embroidery, and books about Biba, and wax museums, and that sounds like a party to me.

Survey works on paper by Wynde Dyer.... with minimal palette, she interprets haunting, sparse portraits of unfamiliar (yet recognizable) places. Accompany that with the droning (or droll) sound works by my adored brother, Branic Howard, (who is home from his NY grad school studies for the summer). Add yourself-dressed in landscape inspired clothing- ....textures, neutrals (or color if you see fit), nods to architecture.....
and you have yourself PGF's most inspired and exciting intro to summer art party yet!
Come and make friends with your landscape.......
ps we have tons of new clothing and this month the gallery is extended throughout the entire shop.... seriously not to be missed!
*wine and treats and funny chatter as usual*
