Shirley Craddick, who has held Position 3 on the Gresham City Council since January 2005, filed 30 verified voter signatures last week to become an official candidate for re-election.
Position 3 is one of three seats up for grabs in the November general election.
Craddick, who served as council president in 2007, received signature support from the mayor, two past mayors and all members of the current council, along with local business leaders and community activists.
"I chose to use the petition method to begin dialogue with the community about my service and Gresham's needs going forward," Craddick said in a written statement.
Craddick, retired from a career at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, said she hopes to see several key city projects and initiatives completed, including the Gradin Youth Sports Park, the Gresham Center for the Arts, revitalization of the Rockwood neighborhood and urbanization of Springwater and Pleasant Valley.
The filing deadline for the City Council is Aug. 21.
