Read full storyBernd Haussman has been widely exhibited in Europe as well as in numerous galleries across the United States. The German-born artist was trained at the MERZ Akadamie in Stuttgart. Museum-collected and renowned in his homeland, Haussmann has been increasingly sought by American corporate collectors including Xerox and the Hyatt Regency Corporation. The artist creates abstractions from nature using an iconography derived from flora and fauna and working in series with common themes. While his vocabulary is recognizable, it is the surface textures of his paintings, upon which he lavishes his considerable talent, that capture the viewer's interest. Ranging from rich impasto to luminous glazes, surface is the focal point of a Haussmann canvas. He builds up layer upon layer, often working over a period of years, and sometimes scratching through to reveal a strata of information underneath. The artist has augmented his works on canvas with a stunning series of oil paintings on rubber and painting "fragments" on paper.
