...We had a very relaxing week in Whistler. The sun was shining and poolside was inviting. My wife being over 8 months pregnant, we did not do many of the endless outdoor activities available in Whistler. We did manage to get lots of rest and eat good food. My plan was to let my wife actually enjoy this vacation and not run her around trying to make it to every brewery in Seattle, Vancouver, and Whistler. In the end it was not very hard to do in Vancouver or Whistler, as many of the options seemed to come with less than stellar reviews.

After spending a week away from our daughter in BC, we were anxious to get home last weekend. We decided to make the drive from Whistler to Portland in one day. We had spread it over three days on the way up. My plan of visiting Alibi Room in Vancouver and sampling their impressive tap list was negated by the brunch menu. A long wait at the border ruined any chance of stopping in Bellingham for lunch at Boundary Bay Brewery. Alas, I was able to squeeze in a quick trip to Fremont Brewing in Seattle.
This production brewery opened in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle in 2008. Founded by attorney Matt Lincecum, the brewery strives to use organic and local products as much as possible. This includes organic grains from BC and hops from Yakima Valley with a push towards organic hops. All aspects of the brewery are geared towards sustainability including the recycled brewing equipment, future canning line, and energy saving measures within the building itself.

My alibi for having gone missing--last Saturday I got to take photos for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge on the Columbia River. And I got to take them while standing on a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office River Patrol Boat! Thank you so much! Naturally I took loads and loads of photos. My little ol' computer is just about worn out with downloading and uploading. But I figured I owed it to the 100's of people brave enough to run into that cold water; I wanted them to have a chance to see their faces as they gave up being warm, all to raise around $140,000 for a great cause.
Anyway, here's something new for you to enjoy!

I took this photo on a December, Saturday, as Leland and I drove by in the Buick, a couple of hungry folks on the prowl on Interstate Avenue. As I snapped the photo, I said, "Leland, the sign says lunch! Let's try here!" Turned out to be a brilliant decision. We went there again Saturday before last.
