SEAPLANE

Ran into Portland design maven Emily Ryan on Saturday as I was pouring (pun!) over the wine specials at Sheridan's, and she had some good news: Over the course of January she'll be in the process of joining Liza Rietz, with whom she's co-presented collections for years, at Rietz's retail/studio space in Northwest at 2305 NW Savier, where she formerly partnered with John Blasioli. This will hopefully lead to a more reliable source for Ryan's work, which tends to fly off the shelves when it hits Seaplane (an unflaggingly recommended store by Courtney Love), and generally make it easier to get hold of her designs (the etsy site is a recent development). Look for an announcement in the coming month for an event to kick off the new collab.

Hmm, what's your look these days? Is it growing more savagely goth, but with a certain (if disintegrating) primness? I wouldn't blame you if it did, and the upcoming Emily Sunnell fashion show (her line is called Emilia Kaye) on Thursday, Dec 11 at Fada Salon might just provide some inspiration, and moreover the means, to steer you further in that direction:

The show is being presented by Seaplane, which leads me to believe that Sunnell will show the more tattered and dramatic end of her spectrum, but I've a message out to her now for all the deets...
If you have yet to wrap up your holiday shopping or, like me, haven't even begun...don't panic. And don't go to the mall! Shop locally-owned boutiques for super-cool gifts, support Portland's design scene and keep your cash in the community.
To make the selction easy, I asked the owners of some of my favorite shops to send me their gift picks. Check them out below!
Alright, it's November, dudes. It's time to get crackin' on your shopping. Seriously, don't try to cram it all onto one paycheck. You'll regret it. 'Tis the season for my email account to fill up daily with announcements of sales and store events, and there is no way I'll have time to post about all of them, but I'll do my best to make sure you're at least aware of the highlights. For instance, tonight Seaplane is having another of its pop-up store events, and it's a doozy, group affair, with goods from locals Minor Poet, Hubris & Sophrosyne, Linsey Ann, and Dust--a line so exciting it doesn't even have a web site. Somehow I find that thrilling. As an East Coast bonus, NYC line Chulette will also be repping. Show up tonight from 7-10 pm for festivities, but the store will be up and running through the weekend. Get crackin'!
