A new pedestrian-bridge at the South Waterfront; Vestas, princes of Denmark's wind-power, turn to SoWa as a possible HQ

Dec 17, 2008Jalpuna!

It's snowing again, but the temperature downtown has climbed above 32 degrees, so who knows what to expect today. Local weathermen are calling for snow, rain and sleet with wind, frozen sidewalks and snowy roadways, cats and dogs living together in harmony, republicans smelling like pachouli and the possibility of Sarah Palin without a single wink or You Betcha!

Yep, it's going to be that sort of day.

So... why not stay indoors and enjoy some local youtube action:

The video was created by a man named Bob Cronk and shows cars trying to exit the South Waterfront neighborhood. I'm guessing it's the corner of SW Moody and Gaines?

This is Portland. We're totally unprepared for this sort of weather since we see it so rarely. Stay home if you can. Be safe.

Woo, who else is excited for the new influx of commerce? Yay! I hope this all pans out. And, according to the article, it might give the South Waterfront a reason to exist!

I would have said this after my first time dining a few months ago at Lucier, the overblown temple to someone's ego in the South Waterfront district. If you want to see how people can piss away $4+million, check it out. On second thought, don't, because your money is so better spent elsewhere....anywhere! I just read this post on Portland Food and Drink that links to Oregonian food critic Karen Brooks' review of Lucier where she gives it a generous C-.

I noticed it was blowing and snowing, making the parts of the ground where Sunday's snow had melted white again. So I grabbed my camera and headed to the roof garden. Only thing, when I got there, it had quit! Still and all, I like these photos.
Looking southwest, towards the South Waterfront. See the aerial tram mid-way support on the right? The arches are the Ross Island Bridge.

You could see more of the Marquam Bridge at that time.

Let's follow the red-cab 18-wheeler as it heads north on I-5, beside Part the skyline that I've come to adore.

This is sort of sad. My favorite summer job of all time was the three months I spent as a courier for Security Pacific in the early 90s.  I had a little route that took me from what's now the South Waterfront, into downtown and back.  It was during this summer that I learned how to [...]

The January edition of the Portland Monthly had a nice long expose about our new Mayor - what I find most interesting is the long introduction that takes Amanda Burden on a tour through South Waterfornt.  Definately worth a read - which you can now do online (finally!) - read it here: Becoming Sam Adams. Fred Leeson sure has been writing up a storm about the South Waterfront lately - he had another small article last Thursday about our Greenway and the current situation with the boat dock.  According to the article things are not sounding so good - the feds say the docks are nesting grounds for predators of [...]

Last Thursday there was an interesting piece in the Oregonian talking about the future of the OHSU Schnitzer Campus.  It is especially interesting to note the "key elements" to the campus that OHSU is targeting.  The author Fred Leeson interviewed Mark Williams of OHSU for the article and other than the effects of the current [...]

Last Friday the Daily Journal of Commerce published an article updating Portlanders on the status of the neighborhood park here in South Waterfront.  The bid process for construction of the park has been extended to January 15th, but the article states that construction will begin in late February 2009 - horay!  Read the full article [...]

Come join South Waterfront neighbors to a presentation by district developers, a host of representatives from City of Portland bureaus, and spokespeople from OHSU among others as they fill you in on what's up and coming in the neighborhood.  We encourage you to send your questions in advance to communityrelations@southwaterfront.com. Location: John Ross Plaza Studio (3623 [...]
