According to Oregon Media Insiders, all of the paper's freelancers will be gone by the end of the month - more proof that the future appears bleak for newspapers trying to keep up with the changing media landscape. Which brings me to a quick poll on the topic - what is your main source for news? [...]

Oregon Media Insiders has the news with a question mark. It can remove the question mark. The first casualty of the sports-talk radio wars is on The Game. The Morning Sports Page with Katy Brown and Kenny Vance is gone....

First Oregon Media Insiders reported, then the Willamette Week's Byron Beck confirmed, that The Oregonian is about to offer all its part-time employees, in all departments, a buyout: In an unprecedented move, every part-time employee at The O (that tallies...

I caught wind of this yesterday, and now it seems that Oregon Media Insiders is confirming it: The Oregonian?following news that their circulation shrank by 4.76 percent in the last six months?is going to offer voluntary buy-outs to all of its part timers. In editorial, the number I hear is that would apply to up to around 90 people (unless I misheard and that's a paper-wide number. It's a big chunk of employees, either way.)

May 1, 2008WWIRE from Willamette Week
It's confirmed. As Oregon Media Insiders whispered here late last night, The Oregonian has expanded its employee buyout offer to part-timers. In an unprecedented move, every part-time employee at The O (that tallies up to around 300 people company-wide) is being offered a buyout by the powers that be (we heard it's driven by publisher Fred Stickel's office). In the latest cost-cutting measure during difficult economic times in the newspaper industry, the O's part-time employees have been told they will receive letters in the mail in the next week addressing their personal situations (salary, benefits, etc.). If they accept the offer, those employees will have until the end of June to leave the company. Part-time employees are rarely offered a buyout in any company. If there aren't enough "volunteers" among the part-timers, PLAN #9 from Outer Space indicates there will be another round of buy-outs offered to full-timers, the third in recent years.

From Oregon Media Insiders comes the strange-bedfellows news that Shawn Taylor, Lars Larson's producer (until she was unceremoniously dumped last month) will be executive producing the Thom Hartmann's show on Air America.

There has to be a moral, or a pattern, or something there, but I can't seem to find it.

KEX sports director Scott Lynn is being treated for colon cancer. On the send Scott a get well greeting page at KEX, he says in part:

My New Year's holiday didn't quite go the way I'd planned.

On Sunday, December 28th, I went to the hospital with extreme abdominal pain and the next thing I knew; I was having surgery for colon cancer!

The first few days have been a little rough and I look forward to recuperating at home. After some healing time, my doctors tell me I'll need chemotherapy.

With digital TV, stations can offer digital subchannels with distinct programming. In Portland, KGW offers the "KGW Weather Channel" (formerly NBC Weather Plus) on 8.2, while OPB offers additional public television programming and OPB Radio. KPXG supplements its Ion feed with children's, lifestyle, and religious programming; and KNMT broadcasts wall-to-wall-to-wall evangelical Christianity across 5 channels.

MGM will provide classic TV and movies to unspecified Fisher stations in the coming months with This TV. Other possible additions include:
